Search engines provide web users with information by returning a list of documents that resemble what the user specified in their search. They are also a critical part of the infrastructure of the internet. There are many different search engines that have unique functions. The following is a list of eight search engines with exclusive abilities.

1. WolframAlpha

WolframAlpha is a search engine that does mathematical computations. It can solve math problems from multiple disciplines. It does this by using algorithms and built in data to bring the most relevant information to the user. The search engine also is good for academic research because it has expert-level knowledge.

2. Bing

Bing is a search engine that was created by Microsoft. It is similar to Google but it has unique features. According to Microsoft, Bring decreases the bulk of junk you get when initiate a search. This is done to display the most accurate information from your search. One feature Bing has it its' flight cost prediction. It has the ability to predict when a flight may increase which would be useful for someone planning a trip.

3. Yahoo


Yahoo is a search engine that was created by Jerry Yang and David Filo. It is a search engine that allows users to search for news, knowledge, and videos from the internet. Yahoo has a special section that users can ask other participants Question and Answers. Yahoo Answers is a portal of Yahoo that lets users ask questions that are answered by other users. This is good because it gives opinionated answers on topics such as politics, technology, and academics. Furthermore, it provides a voice for the yahoo community to speak out and share their thoughts with one another.

4. Ask

Ask is a search engine that was created by Garrett Gruener and David Warthen. Formally called Ask Jeeves the search engine offers search for scholarly articles, directions, videos, images, movies, and news. Presently it is mainly used as a question and answer website. This is useful for people who have common questions for everyday topics. Ask.com has many subjects about animals, arts and humanities, business, and computer and electronics and much more.

5. DuckDuckgo

DuckDuckgo was founded by Gabriel Weinberg in 2008. This website is unique because in doesn't track you. DuckDuckgo does not profile its users. Furthermore, the search engine has a reputation for delivering the best search results from credible sources. The website is known for protecting its users privacy.

6. Yandex

Yandex was founded by Arkady Volozh and Arkady Borkovsky in 1990. It is the largest Russian search engine. The search engine is known for its cloud services and social networking. The search engine has features such as image surfing and "matrixnext" technology. This feature is used to rank search results.

7. Yummly

Yummly was founded by David Feller and Vadim Geshel in 2009. It allows users to search for recipes, cooking tips, and ingredients. The search engine provides information on dieting, nutrition, and recipe  for holidays. This website is a good tool for people looking to experiment with a new dish or learn how to cook dinner.

8. Entireweb.com

Entireweb.com is a search engine that launched in 2000. The search engine is a marketing website that is used to provide exposure for its users. Furthermore, it is also a general search engine for everyday topics such as social media, news, and networking. Entireweb prides itself on cutting edge search technology that provides relevant information to its' users.

  2. I agree with Ben Johnson about asking a question then waiting a couple of seconds and calling on a student. It allows the students to think on their feet. It also challenges the student. This is very effective in the classroom. It is also important that a teacher asks questions in the classroom, to help students learn.
